The Bernstein Center Freiburg consolidates its role as a hub for neuroscience with the launch of the PhD program iCoNeT. Over four years, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research will fund this international PhD program with up to 400,000 €.

European Union awards Erasmus Mundus grant for Joint Doctorate Programme to the Bernstein Center Freiburg
-
The Bernstein Center Freiburg will receive funding from the Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctorate Programme of the European Union to support its efforts in educating PhD students in the interdisciplinary field of neuroinformatics. The so-called EuroSPIN (European Study Programme in Neuroinformatics) will be carried out in collaboration with Kungliga Tekniska Högskolan in Stockholm, Sweden, the University of Edinburgh, UK, and the National Centre for Biological Sciences, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, in Bangalore, India. The programme will start in 2010.

European Union awards Marie Curie Action “FACETS-ITN” to the Bernstein Center Freiburg

Embarking on a research career is not always easy. The European Commission seeks to support young researchers in this endeavour through the Marie Curie Initial Training Network (ITN) Program. The Bernstein Center at Freiburg University was now awarded financial support that will allow 21 selected Ph.D. students to conduct their research in a highly interdisciplinary field that spans from neurobiology to electrical engineering and computer science.

Junior Professorship Programme supports research on neuronal basis of movements

The activity of neurons is the basis for movement patterns in animals and humans alike. Up to now, it is largely unknown how the structure and activity of a neuronal network shapes the composition of complex movements. Abigail Morrison, Junior Professor at the Faculty of Biology and the Bernstein Center at the University of Freiburg, is trying to find an answer to this question. The Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Science now awarded her research with a grant of 150,000 €.
