Joint Master in Neuroscience wins „Prix Bartholdi“

On November 5, 2010, the Joint Master in Neuroscience was awarded this year’s „Prix Bartholdi“. The award recognises the efforts of the universities of Strasbourg, Basel and Freiburg in creating a Master’s programme that combines the strengths of neuroscientific institutions in the Upper Rhine valley to offer an international degree in the highest standards.

In 2006, the Joint Master in Neuroscience was introduced through the efforts of Neurex, the trinational research network for the neurosciences in the Upper Rhine valley. Since then, Pierrick Poisbeau of the University of Strasbourg has been coordinating the degree. Each year, the programme prepares 15 to 20 European and international students to pursue a high-profile scientific career in the neurosciences. The students accepted in the programme usually have an educational background in the life science or the health sector. Scientists and university teachers from the universities of Strasbourg, Basel and Freiburg provide parts of the curriculum corresponding to their areas of excellence, namely computational neuroscience, neurogenetics, neurophysiology and neuropathology.
The alumni of the Joint Master in Neuroscience are currently working on their doctoral theses or found employment in health care institutions.
The “Prix Bartholdi – Prix Équipe Pédagogique” aims at the creation of new binational and trinational study programmes witin the Upper Rhine Region. Each year, the prize is awarded to a project group that took the initiative of creating such a programme.
