Abstract: In the first part of the talk I intend to survey some of the published reports on the dynamics of membrane potential (Vm) in cortical neurons of awake mammals, including our own findings. The second part will focus on how an intracellular recording can help interpreting the nearby local field potential (LFP) signal and its ties to spikes. Specifically, I will describe how such data allows relating spike triggered LFP average, the typical measure of correlation between the activity of individual neurons and the LFP, to the Vm-LFP crosscorrelation. The work was carried out in the laboratory of Dr. Ilan Lampl, at the Weizmann Institute of Science. | |
