Abstract: Primate neurophysiology has revealed various neural mechanisms at single cell level and population level. However, recording techniques have not been updated for these several decades that are causing experimental limitations especially in emerging new field: social neuroscience, which requires interaction between subjects under realistic social environment. To unleash the limitations and give more freedom in experimental design, multi-dimensional recording (MDR) was developed. MDR obtains behavioral, neural, eye position and other biological data simultaneously by using integrated multiple recording systems. MDR gives wide degree of freedom in experimental design, because level of behavioral restraint is highly adjustable depending on experimental requirement without loosing quality of signals. The biggest advantage of MDR is that it provides stable neural signal at higher temporal resolution for over months at network level from multiple subjects that no other methods could provide. Conventional event related analysis on MDR data showed consistent results to previous findings, while novel analysis could reveal network mechanism that could not been challenged before. Moreover, MDR data is now shared in public server: Neurotycho.org. These recording and sharing methods support an ecological system that is open to everyone so that it will be valuable, useful and powerful research/educational platform for understanding dynamic mechanism of neural network. | |
